Medicinal
Popular throughout history as a calming soothing herb for colicky abdominal pain and digestive problems, chamomile is also seen as having a calming effect on mental tension and agitation. Chamomile tea taken at bedtime was regarded as a traditional remedy to promote restful sleep, particularly in invalids and children.
A hot infusion of the flowers was historically used as a remedy for fevers associated with infections of the upper respiratory system, where it was said to promote sweating and help the body to fight off infection.
Caution: May sometimes cause contact dermatitis.
